The Leader In Me

Welcome back to Term 2. Our classes have been busy setting new Wildly Important Goals for their academic and personal progress. Your child should have discussed with you their goal for this term and how they aim to achieve this.

This term each student is encouraged to verbalise what they are a leader in. All students are a leader in at least one thing, be it in soccer, mathematics or drawing, as examples. Whilst we love to hear what students are a leader in, we also love to see how they establish their leadership in this area and share their skills with others. Do they run a lunchtime club to help others with their soccer skills? Are they a part of the Art club? Do they help others in the classroom with their mathematics tasks? Being a leader is all about encouraging others to develop their skills.

Our student leaders have been busy re-establishing our lunchtime clubs for Term 2. Their dedication to meet each fortnight and use up a lunchtime to support their fellow Junior School students is admired.

Our Junior School Captains, George and Cecilia, have shared some insights into their role.

“I have loved being a School Captain by doing many exciting speeches, including the ANZAC Day commemoration, with the Greek National Guard coming to Australia all the way from Greece. Speaking at Open Days has been so fun, talking to the parents that have come to see our school, having leadership meetings with Miss Scott and having lunches with Mr Robertson.”  - George

“Becoming Junior School Captain is probably one of the biggest highlights of my life. Talking in assembly, and having lunch with the Principal are a few of the bigger parts of having a role in the leadership team, but I’ve caught hold of those little moments of being JS captain. Like working with the younger grades, or helping out some teachers. However, the most important aspect of being a captain is being a good role model for your peers. Lots of students from the younger year levels look up to us, and we need to set a standard, so they can also be the best of the best.” - Cecilia
