Principal's news

Dear Parents

I am very proud of our Head of Junior School, Mrs Shelley Parkes and the Junior School collectively, for her deserved recognition as a finalist in the Australian Excellence Awards in the Category of Primary School Principal of the Year – Non-government, as well as recognition as one of the 50 Most Influential Educators in Australia.

Our school prides itself on developing leaders and leadership both at staff and student level. I am delighted that the focus of our Leadership Development Program is bearing fruit, not only within the student body but also within our School’s Leadership Team. The focus on leadership commences at Oakleigh Grammar from the time a child commences at our Early Learning Centre within the ‘Leader In Me’ framework. As you may be aware, Oakleigh Grammar has the highest level of accreditation in this student leadership development program and we are very proud of this Lighthouse status.  Indeed, we are the only Independent School in Australia that has achieved this highest level of recognition.

As part of our Strategic Plan, we are committed to developing both staff and student voice and agency, which will provide further opportunities for our staff and students to be recognised consistent with the recognition bestowed upon our Head of Junior School this year. Mrs Parkes is delighted with the recognition and has acknowledged that this achievement requires a village, with staff and students working together in the spirit of cooperation and unity.

$200,000 Election Pledge from the Honourable Clare O’Neil MP

Hot off the Press is the exciting news of a $200,000 election pledge which would come to fruition if the Federal Labour Party wins the Election this coming weekend. The funds would be allocated to transforming our 9Ways Centre into an indoor Cafeteria, replacing the current outdoor Canteen. Due to electoral boundary changes which will occur directly after the Election, Oakleigh Grammar will be change from the Higgins Electorate to Hotham Electorate, the seat currently held by Clare O’Neil MP.

Mothers’ Day Brunch

I was delighted to attend the Mothers’ Day Brunch on 5 May where the buzz and excitement that was generated will be remembered by all who were in attendance for a long time.  This event will raise much needed funds for our School, and I am grateful to our co-Presidents Rob Keoliyan and John Dellis and their team of volunteers for their energy and commitment in organising, promoting, and running these and future events.
