Red Shield Appeal

The Red Shield Appeal is our year-round nationwide fundraising appeal to meet the budget needs for The Salvation Army's many community service programmes. It's a challenging goal, and one the Salvos simply could not achieve without the support of the community, including schools like EMC. On Saturday 28th May, we had 43 students, 6 parents and 6 staff that gave up their morning in the chilly conditions to door knock around our local community and help raise a total of $1611.50

The funds raised through the Red Shield Appeal are used to assist people in need in Australia regardless of their nationality, race, belief, sexuality, ability, or behaviour. This includes those who are homeless, those who suffer domestic violence and families who struggle with the weekly budget. Funds raised also support some of The Salvation Army's programmes like drug and alcohol programmes, family housing programmes and women’s refuges.

Ms Wade’s VCAL group also ran homeless education sessions to years 7 & 8s whilst another group ran a winter clothes drive a free dress day to raise additional money for the Salvation Army. A huge thank you to Ms Howell, Ms Wade, Ms Grinsted and Ms Spence for their support on the day.

Every collector made a difference to their local community. It was an opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills, experience the feeling of assisting people who are in times of need and crisis, build better self-image and self-esteem and connect with their community. Participating students were provided lunch, 3 THRIVE points and a Big Mac voucher. Students will also be provided with a certificate of appreciation at a term 3 assembly. Congratulations to all those involved and to the Bindana sub school for having the most participants.
