Year 3 Incursions

Engineering Without Borders

From Jaimi, Year 3 teacher

This term the Year 3's have enjoyed two wonderful incursions!

The Pillowcase Project

Our first incursion was run by our lovely neighbours at The Red Cross. The program is called 'The Pillowcase Project' which is teaching students to be prepared in emergencies. Year 3 worked collaboratively to decide which items were considered essential and which were not. They then designed and decorated their own pillowcase to keep, which they can use to put essential items in if it's ever required.

Engineering Without Borders

Our second incision called 'Engineering Without Borders'. This was led by amazing engineering students from the University of Melbourne, and required students to consider real-world issues, and design and build solutions for these challenges. Groups worked to design and create floating structures to support people during a flood, and protective limbs for people living in communities without adequate healthcare and monetary support.

On top of this, we have enjoyed the school gardening program weekly, and some of us got to participate in a basketball clinic!

We've had a great term with lots of additional learning opportunities, and we can't wait for term 2!
