Burwood Girl’s Prefect Afternoon Tea

On Wednesday, the 28th of April, 3 prefects were invited to attend the Burwood Girls High School Prefect Afternoon Tea, with a variety of other leadership groups from wider Sydney. It provided an excellent opportunity to network with other schools, as well as discuss the structure of our respective prefect bodies and plans for the future. Throughout our time there, we engaged in a spectrum debate, as well as played team building games such as water pong, name the logo, and pin the badge on the prefect, all of which allowed us to build meaningful connections with other prefects. It was a great afternoon hosted by BGHS, one that we hope to attend at other schools and one day host, in the near future.

Thanks to Ms La Grassa for organising our attendance.

ArtExpress excursion

As the perfect way to wrap up a tiring school term, I, alongside the other senior art students of Canterbury Girls, had the privilege of visiting 2020’s ‘Artexpress’ with Ms Caprin and Ms Texier. We arrived at the Art Gallery of NSW on the last day of school, excited to explore and be inspired by the hard work of young people just like us, and I’ll tell you, we weren’t let down. The ‘Artexpress’ opened to a room plastered from head to toe with the process diaries of students all over NSW. It was so interesting to see just how much effort and planning goes into each and every major work, and the talent displayed through the diaries is simply amazing. After exploring the beginnings and inspirations of the students’ artwork, we walked further into the exhibition to see the wonderful products of those diaries: the students' final bodies of work. What once were mere sketches and ideas in process diaries, have been transformed into the extremely polished and professional artworks before us. The sheer skill, depth of feeling, an insight displayed through the students’ artworks is astonishing. It was really interesting to see the massively wide range of mediums, themes and styles utilised by each artist- it's amazing how our differences as people, whether it be interests, values, cultures or aesthetics, can be communicated so clearly through art. As a student in year eleven, I'm only just beginning to consider my own body of work, and the ‘Artexpress’ has really inspired me to consider new ideas and themes for my own future work- and I’m certain the other students in my class feel the same.

Young Archie Art Comp Entry

Charlie Wyndham-Jones from Year 8 entered the Young Archie Art Competition.

"My drawing is of my beautiful Nanny. The photo I used was taken at Christmas because I thought that it would give it some character, and it added cheerfulness. My artwork is called 'Laughs at Goulburn' because that is where we had our Christmas and it’s always a happy time when we are with her."
