Welcome to The Patch!

During a tough 2020, the team at The Patch (Kingswood Primary School  SAKG) worked hard to plan and re-brand our SAKG program. Many of you would have seen our new covered area and wood-fired pizza oven, with the addition of more tables and seating for use during SAKG classes. We have four wicking beds outside the kitchen, with another four to be added to the area this term. The students have embraced the positive changes, as we now refer to this space as The Patch Café.

This year all students from years 3-6 will take part in SAKG classes. During each class, a small group of students will work in the garden, while the rest of the class will work in the kitchen. The students then come together at sharing time, to enjoy the dishes created during kitchen class and chat about what they worked on during their Kitchen/Garden session. These groups will rotate at each session.

So far, the students have created and enjoyed several delicious, seasonal recipes. Some of the highlights have been

  • Zucchini and pear muffins
  • Sweet potato flatbread served with classic hommus and guacamole.

We are all so excited to be back in the Kitchen and Garden!

2nd March - 6W

Pear, passionfruit and zucchini muffins, char-grilled zucchini and cranberry salad.

The flavours in the healthy pear, passionfruit and zucchini muffins were very strong when you ate them, they were also very fluffy. The flavours in the kitchen are never the same they are always delicious and interesting. The smell is like coming home to your favourite meal.

We talked about eating with our eyes before we tasted the food. As we plated up the salad we tried to make the presentation the best we could.

The techniques we used today were grating, bridge cutting and washing our vegetables and fruit before using them.

22nd February - 3A

Today in Kitchen we made zucchini and pear muffins. It was a little messy at times but we had fun! We learnt how to wash dishes properly with soap, how to grate pears and zucchini, how to read a menu, how to use table manners and how to dry all of the equipment.

The muffins tasted sweet, delicious and yummy. The muffins had a cinnamon and pear taste and you couldn’t really taste the zucchini.
