Building Connections

Education Week 2021 will run from 23-29 May and the theme is "Building Connections".
The theme celebrates the connections between schools and local communities and strengthens bonds with families and careers.
Education Week is an opportunity for Jacana School for Autism, to showcase how they are building connections with the community around them.

- All staff will complete Mental Health First Aid Training (MFHA)
- Leadership Staff will undergo group training with a Psychologist to further develop their skillset beyond the tools obtain in the mental health first aid training.
- Principal Class Team/Welfare Team will undertake an additional 2-hour training course to ensure they have the highest level of knowledge across the organisation when it comes to managing mental health in the workplace.
Consent education and disclosures advice
The Victorian Government has announced that from Term 2, the teaching of consent in an age-appropriate way will be mandatory in all government schools.
The Victorian Curriculum requires schools to teach the focus areas of relationships, sexuality and safety. Mandating the teaching of consent will bring focus to this critical issue.
These focus areas are integrated within Jacana School for Autism's Personal & Social Capability and Health/P.E units of work, as part of the school's 3-year Curriculum Plan. The units include existing teaching resources; including the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships and Family Planning Victoria program for students with disability.
