Week 4 Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

To all the mums, grandmothers and special women in our school community. I hope you had a lovely day with your family on Sunday and that the time spent together was very special.

A Prayer for Mothers

We thank you Lord for the great gift of motherhood.

It is within our mother’s womb, that we began life.

It is in her embrace that we have known safety and comfort.

It is through her encouragement that we grow and mature.

Lord, bless our mothers.

Draw close to them and hear their prayers for their children.

Give them the grace of surrendered love

–a love that images the love of our heavenly mother, Mary.

May all mothers find dailythe strength to love generously,

the patience to endure graciously,

and the grace to live their vocation of motherhood joyously.

We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ,

Amen.

Congratulations to our Parents and Friends Committee on another successful Mother’s Day Morning Breakfast.  It was very well attended and there were many happy faces and long chats.  On behalf of the school, we appreciate all the extra time and effort you spend to ensure that this is a very special morning for the mums, grandmothers and special women. It was great to see many grandmothers and special carers at this event. A huge thank you to our school Choir that performed an impromptu song. It was amazing!!

You can see the video of their performance on our Facebook page - St Fidelis Catholic Primary School.

STEM - AT DORIS BLACKBURN KINDER

We are so proud of our Year 6 St Fidelis students sharing their love of STEM by inspiring the next generation of scientists at Doris Blackburn Kinder with Joe and myself. The Kinder children have been given a special STEM kit with the challenge to go home and build their very own robot to be submitted to us by the 10th of May for entry into our STEM competition. We can't wait to see the entries.

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 and Year 5 students will sit The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) this week. NAPLAN has been part of the school calendar since 2008. At St Fidelis NAPLAN is another piece of ongoing evidence that assists us with tracking the progress of your child in literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN consists of tests in the four areas: Reading, Writing, Language Convention (spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. These will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Best wishes to our Year 3 and Year 5 student who will participate in NAPLAN this week. We want you to know we do not measure your success on NAPLAN results but on the attitude and effort you bring to all your learning.

Once the children arrive, they will be given a Breakfast Box that contains (Nutrigrain, Just Right, Sultana Bran, Cornflakes or Weetbix , carton of milk, their own bowl and spoon)  and are invited to join their friends and family for brekkie. Each child that participates will be given a certificate and tattoo. (see letter below for more details)

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Parish Car Park

Serious traffic safety concerns in the St Fidelis Church Car Park have been raised with the St Fidelis Primary School's Leadership Team. As you may be aware, there is a considerable amount of traffic both before and after school entering, then reversing and driving out of the car park.

The concern is that some parents/carers are dropping off students from their cars in the car park. This is a dangerous practice for students who exit cars without being accompanied by their parents/carers and who may not be seen by other drivers.

St Fidelis Primary School asks that on driving into the church car park, parents park then exit their vehicles and escort their children to the footpath adjoining the carpark alongside the senior learning area. Similarly, we suggest that at the end of the day, parents park their cars, exit their vehicles and meet their child/children on this footpath so they are accompanied by an adult whilst in the car park precinct.

We thank you in advance for your support in adhering to these requirements so that the safety of all of our students is maintained.

PUPIL FREE DAY –Friday May 21st

Reminder that there will be Pupil Free Day on Friday May 21st. The focus of this day is on Student Assessment. If you require childcare on this day please contact THIERCARE and book via their parent portal.

COVID INFORMATION - Assemblies, award ceremonies and other large gatherings

Parents cannot attend our indoor basketball court for assemblies. This area can only accommodate 115 parents/carers/visitors at time. This following advice is from MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholics Schools ) latest Schools Operation Guide:

“If an event is held with external guests (parents/carers/visitors), then the overall attendee limit (inclusive of guests, staff and students) must be based on the available floor space of the venue, with the density limit of one person per two square metres applied. If an event is held exclusively with students and staff from a single school outside school hours, density limits do not apply to the venue or dance floor, regardless of whether the event is held at school or at a hospitality venue, entertainment facility or community facility”

Have a great week

Manuela
