Holy Week

Holy means “set apart.” Christians set apart an entire week - Holy Week - to recall the events surrounding the suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. The Symbols of Holy Week. The liturgies of Holy Week are filled with some of the richest and most ancient symbols of the Catholic faith. The waving of palms on Palm Sunday reminds us that we are called to be followers of Jesus. The washing of feet on Holy Thursday speaks to us of the selfless love that we are called to practice in imitation of Jesus. The veneration of the cross on Good Friday reminds us that, as Christians, we believe that Jesus can over come anything, even death. The lighting of the Easter fire in a darkened church and the celebration of baptisms on Holy Saturday reminds us of the new life that is ours because of Jesus’ triumph over the darkness of sin and death through his resurrection. This Holy Week set apart time to renew your faith in Jesus, to carry light into the darkness of someone you know, with a word of hope, an act of kindness, an answer to prayer.

Easter

Jesus Christ is Risen! Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus, the central feast of Christianity. The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus teach us that suffering is transformed through faith in the Risen Christ, that God can overcome anything, even death. The Easter spirit is one of renewal that enables us to renew relationships and to express appreciation and affection to those closest to us. It means to see the world through new eyes—God's eyes.

Symbols of Easter

The butterfly is one traditional symbol of the Resurrection. The most popular symbol is the egg, which seems to be lifeless but then breaks open to release new life. The lily is another common symbol. A dry and lifeless-looking bulb blossoms into one of the most beautiful flowers on earth.

Caritas

This week the Yr 5 and 6 students participated in a’ Walk for Water’ to strengthen our commitment to live in solidarity as global citizens. May we care for our global family and our common home, as we “Aspire not to have more, but to be more”. A reminder that all funds raised by tomorrow’s casual clothes day go to Caritas to support all the incredible work they do worldwide.
