Year 3 - Year 6

Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 2!

What a busy first few weeks we have had here at the Springs… We have definitely hit the ground running!

ANZAC Day here in Pakenham looked a little different again this year.  Whilst most of the Springers Community were unable to attend the Pakenham Dawn Service, as it was invite-only, we held a special ceremony here at school last Friday and encouraged students to participate in the ‘Light up the Dawn’ Service at their homes on Sunday.

Our school Captains read out a speech to the Springers community to pay respect to those who lost their lives and those who fought for our country to make it a wonderful place.

Our Junior Rotary Community participants conducted an additional ceremony, by laying a wreath outside our school against our flag poles.  Many classes across the school did pay their respects by producing some thoughtful and stunning ANZAC artworks.  LEST WE FORGET.

The Year 6 Secondary School transition process has started this term, with parents receiving their enrolment preference forms last week.  Families now have the huge task of deciding which school is the best fit for their child.  When looking at secondary schools, I always say to go on tours, ask questions and speak to current students and families of schools you are thinking about.  No question is too small or too silly – so please ask away!  If there is something you are not sure of regarding this process, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Currently, in our Years 3-6 classrooms, you will see the beginnings of our narrative writing unit taking place.  I love the imagination and sophisticated language that comes from our middle and senior students during this particular writing style!   In Numeracy, Years 3 and 4 have been focusing on place values and how to calculate equations by using addition and short multiplication.  The focus in Year 5 has been on Data representation and interpretation.  Students have delved into reading data and creating appropriate graphs to represent data that they collect.  Year 6 has conducted chance experiments and learnt how to represent their outcomes by using fractions.  During Reading Workshops, lessons have seen students focus on Characters and establishing what their personalities tell us about them.

Have a wonderful week!
