Learning Collaboratively and Celebrating Success

Gold fever hits Grades 5/6!

Last Friday the Grade 5 and 6s launched their Inquiry Unit on the Gold Rush most enthusiastically. Following an inspiring excursion to Sovereign Hill, we dressed in olden days clothing harking back to the 1850s. We were amazed at the effort everyone made as they took on their new characters. There were miners looking to strike it rich, friendly farmers, brazen bushrangers, lovely ladies and even smart school girls. Armed with a 'mining licence' (which we bought from the Commissioner at the steep price of 4 pounds!) we fevereshly dug for alluvial gold. Rumour had it that some had already been found in the sandpit. Some of us came into luck and found several ounces of the precious metal. Others, alas, will be back in days to follow to try their luck and a chance to call shout 'Eureka'!
