Senior Years

Mrs Christine Taylor

Term 2 started with a bang in the Senior Years, commencing with the Year 12 Retreat at Burnside Camp site in Anglesea on Monday and Tuesday of Week 1, followed by our Athletics Carnival and then our Anzac Day service on Friday (23/4) morning.

The Year 12 Retreat

This was the first time we had taken the Year 12 students away for a retreat and it really was a wonderful experience for everyone. The students were surveyed about what they wanted to gain from the retreat, and the programme was tailored around their requests. They challenged themselves through paddle boarding, a complicated high ropes activity and a wall climb. These activities were not just individually inspiring but were also dependent on teamwork and cooperation. The students positively supported each other through complex tasks, which was great to see. There was also time set aside for walking and talking, as well as time for quiet reflective conversations.

In the evening, everyone was blessed by a wonderful devotion given by a student,  followed by everyone ‘chilling’ in their own chosen way, sitting around a camp fire toasting marshmallows, playing board games, outdoor chess, air hockey, pool, table tennis, or playing guitar and having a sing along. The atmosphere was wonderful.

We were rained out on Tuesday but all returned to board games and similar activities and had community time. A highlight of the day was a visit to the chocolate factory on the way back to the College.

Athletics Carnival

Despite having just returned from the retreat, the Year 12 students set the tone for the day by dressing up in House colours and leading their Houses with great energy and humour. It was a fabulous day and all the students who participated, are to be congratulated for their enthusiastic contribution to a successful event. A big thank you also to our H&PE Faculty for all the hard work they put into the day.

The Anzac Day Service

As Mrs McAuliffe mentioned in her article, we celebrated Anzac Day with a service which was very moving as we paused to remember those who have fallen and for those who serve our country. Having the whole College present at the Poppy Garden, was a wonderful thing to see. If you get the opportunity to visit the Senior Years building, please go upstairs and view the poppy garden from there – it really is a very special place of remembrance.

The Melbourne Youth Leadership Conference

2021 is a great year for our Leadership teams in the Middle and Senior Years, as we were invited to attend the Melbourne Secondary Youth Leadership Conference which took place on 28 April 2021. This fantastic opportunity is designed to inspire, strengthen and empower our future leaders. The programme that was delivered was inspiring to both students and staff that attended.

The 2021 Musical – Wondaland

The rehearsals are well underway for the Middle and Senior Years musical. The musical is a modern twist on the Alice in Wonderland story. Friday evenings are very busy for the cast and production team, with vocal training and choreography.

Cabaret Night

The College is hosting a Cabaret Night tomorrow night in the Gym to raise funds for the 2021 Musical - Wondaland.  Please come along and enjoy performances by our students.  Tickets are available at the door.

Careers

Year 10 students are currently having their Morrisby Report interviews with Ms Cameron. At these interviews, students discuss their Morrisby results and future pathways including potential VCE subject choices.

We are looking forward to attending the Wyndham & Hobsons Bay Region Incorporated Careers Association Expo on 21 May with all Year 10 – 12 students.  Students will have an opportunity to discuss their future aspirations with tertiary representatives. Please keep an eye out on Signmee for the permission form.
