Principal's Report

Mrs Fiona McAuliffe

Welcome

Good News scholars (past and present), parents, friends, and staff, welcome to the first edition of our College newsletter! We are delighted to be able to bring you a regular update of our achievements, upcoming activities and all the goings on of the college. In these newsletters you will also find regular updates from our Executive Team, teaching staff, student leaders, parents, and our faith leaders. I look forward to keeping you updated throughout the year on all our hard work!

Principal's Address

On Friday 23 April, the whole College congregated around our Poppy Garden to commemorate Anzac Day by remembering all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. In doing so, we acknowledged the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. Our student leaders again demonstrated their commitment to the College through leading this service with great dignity and respect.

During the incredible service, I personally reflected on the Christ centred service modelled by soldiers, our first responders and our health care workers who protect all of us in the face of great risk and adversity. It is quite overwhelming to realise that we are loved by Christ who gave his life for us and, also by strangers who never knew us.

It is tradition for The Ode to be recited from Laurence Binyon’s, For the Fallen. This year we appreciated Michael Kruizinga for his great explanation of the meaning behind ‘They shall grow not oldIt can take great courage to share thoughts that can have a very personal meaning and to speak in front of so many, so we are very grateful.

I would like to thank our community for their involvement in Term 1 activities. I personally enjoyed the Family Picnics, and it was a great pleasure to speak to so many of you – I always learn so much!

We have started the term planning for events and activities that we are sure will provide highlights and memories, especially after we were unable to do so many things, as a community last year. You will see in this edition of The Good News, and in editions to come, what our staff and students have been planning:

  • Parent/Teacher Interviews and Student-led Conferences commenced this week
  • The tuition program
  • Mother’s Day stall
  • Year 9 City Week
  • The GNLC Cabaret

I am looking forward to seeing all Year 12 parents on Wednesday 5 May at 6:30pm in the Chapel. We have some exciting and very important information to share.

Wishing you God’s blessings for a wonderful and productive Term 2.
