Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey
Congratulations to the Duke of Edinburgh students who completed their Bronze Test Adventurous Journey on the weekend. Weeks of planning and skill development went into the preparation for this journey. The students completed navigation, bushwalking and camping competencies during their hike through Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. With 18kg packs the boys demonstrated teamwork, leadership and resilience to successfully and safely navigate through the 20km of bushland. The spring weather and blooming wild flowers made this a most enjoyable adventure.
Thank you to Mr Brannan for his assistance with supervising the group on Saturday night. If your son is interested in the College Duke of Edinburgh program and associated outdoor activities then please speak to Mrs Manga or Mr de Silva.

The St Pius X College School Championships and the Invitational Carnivals served as selection events for creating a squad for the annual ISA Championships at Homebush.
This year our team was hit by an unprecedented level of injury and sickness. 19 Athletes became unavailable for selection leading up to the ISA. Our results show the strength in-depth within our school and how well the team, Captained by Samuel Richardson pulled together. I had to ask a number of boys to compete in events that they had not trained for:
Every Athlete gave their best and we had a competitor gaining points in every event.
3 of our Athletes set records and 16 of our athletes have been selected to represent the ISA at the CIS Athletics Carnival on Wednesday
The team effort enabled us to finish:
ISA Results : Boys Division 1 |
Junior Shield SPX 3rd
Intermediate Shield SPX 6th
Senior Shield SPX 4th
Aggregate Trophy SPX 4th
Next year I would like to encourage more students to get involved, whilst the ISA team is selected, the training and participation in the Invitational Carnivals is open to everyone.

SPX Tennis Championships
We were blessed with a beautiful morning for our SPX Tennis Championships this year. Students from Year 7 through to Year 12 participated eagerly in our knock-out tournament. The positive buzz leading up to this event and the enthusiasm and sportsmanship shown on the day is a credit to all players.
Junior Division (Years 7, 8, and 9) – This division saw some impressive gameplay with some nail-bitingly close games. Ultimately, Riad Lahoud in Year 8 was the very deserving victor, retaining his Champion status from last year’s tournament. Second place was nabbed by Declan Langreiter who also brought exciting gameplay and some hard-fought wins on the day. Riad and Declan are certainly players to watch on the SPX Tennis circuit in upcoming years.
Senior Division (Years 10, 11 and 12) – Our experienced players were definitely a sight to see on the day. Their impressive skill, energy and determination of these players brought us some sensational rallies. Overall, Year 10’s Jeremy Hoy came out on top after a close game against fellow Year 11’s Michael Chang. They are undoubtedly an inspiration for our younger players in terms of their sportsmanship, skill, camaraderie and enthusiasm.
A final thank you to Ms Black, Ms Kugananthan and Ms Grove, as well as all the players and their parents for their support, not only during our Championship on Saturday, but throughout the whole ISA Tennis season this year. Without your generosity and cooperation I’m sure that the season would have not have been so enjoyable for all involved.
