Deputy Principal's News

Dear Parents,

On Friday it was All Saint's Day.  As a school we came together to pray for all the men and women in our Church's history who bravely made a difference and set and example for all of us.

On Saturday All Soul’s Day, we stopped to remember the dearly departed.  Each one of us has someone in our lives who now lives eternally in our hearts and memories.

Reflection:

It is important to share memories of those loved and no longer present.  This may be a special friend, grandparent, parent, sibling, aunt or uncle…  Share a memory of someone special to you who now lives in your heart with your family.  You may wish to say a prayer together for this person.

St James’ Community Conversations:

Driving the Improvement Agenda

Last week Brendan Flanagan opened up three opportunities for parents to participate in a Community Conversation about student learning at St James. These were attended by a total of 47 across the 3 sessions. Tony Dalton, an external consultant, was engaged to facilitate the conversations. Tony has a background of 44 years of leadership roles in Education in Catholic Schools in Victoria. He now works as an independent consultant in Parent Engagement and Family/School partnerships in Australia and internationally.

Parents involved in the community conversations were asked to respond to 4 questions to provide feedback to the school about what is working well at St James, and how the teaching and learning environment could be improved. Tony facilitated the conversations to ensure that every person had the opportunity to contribute, to hear from one another, and to provide feedback in a way that would be constructive for the schools’ leaders.

As a parent, I appreciate the willingness of Brendan and his staff to open these conversations up to the parent group and to listen to what they had to say. It was great to have the opportunity to give some feedback to the school to drive its improvement agenda and to also hear the constructive ideas of other parents. I would like to thank Brendan and Carmelina for taking this important step and look forward to seeing how this feedback is incorporated into the school’s plans to improve the learning experience for all of our children.
