Principal's Report

Welcomes and Farewells...
During Term 4 each year, we begin welcoming in new staff members and farewelling others. Some of these are expected and then some come as a shock.
Last week we farewelled Tess, and this was certainly unexpected. Tess had the opportunity to pursue another career path and we are very pleased that she can follow her passions in a new field. Tess has left a great legacy at Marlborough, having worked here for the last decade and being the OSHC co-ordinator for most of that. Tess provided a great service to the families who used the OSHC program and the entire school community will certainly miss her.
Last week we also had the opportunity to appoint a new Assistant Principal and a new Music Teacher for 2018. Neil Butler had been appointed as Assistant Principal. Neil is currently working as Acting Principal at Hoddles Creek Primary School after spending several years as a Leading Teacher at Old Orchards Primary School. Neil has great experience and expertise in leading educational change within schools and he will be a great asset to Marlborough as we continue to improve teaching and learning practices in the years ahead.
Megan Richter was the successful applicant for the Music Teacher positon at Marlborough. Megan has a great deal of experience as a Music, Performing Arts and Classroom Teacher and we are sure she will add a great deal to our school. Having the opportunity to broaden our curriculum by employing a Music specialist is going to be of great value to all of our students.
Planning for 2018
We are currently planning our classes for 2018. We will maintain the same structure as this year and it is our intention to maintain this structure consistently year after year. We will have the following classes in 2018:
- Foundation: 2 classes
- Grade 1/2: 3 classes
- Grade 3/4: 3 classes
- Grade 5/6: 2 classes
If you have any specific requests regarding class placement for your child for next year, please email me, mcclare.shaun.d@edumail.vic.gov.au, by Friday 3rd November. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet all class requests, but we will certainly consider them in our planning.
Car Boot Sale and Walkathon - Thank you
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Car boot sale and craft market such a successful day. The PA made $3,000 profit for this event and this money has been spent on a set of 12 Sphero SPRK+ Robots that will be used in the STEAM Lab by all year levels next year. Sphero SPRK+ Robots are a great tool that students can use to develop coding, mathematics and problem-solving skills.
I would also like to thank all community members who have contributed to the Walkathon last week. All proceeds raised from the Walkathon will also go towards equipment for the STEAM Lab.
Long Weekend
Please note that as per previous years, the Monday before Melbourne Cup Day (Monday 6th November) is a Student Free Day. Our teachers will be using this time to prepare end of year reports.
