Rock Climbing Excursion

The Year 10 Sport Science class recently challenged themselves to an afternoon of Rock Climbing on 19 February. To support their studies of human movement, the students attempted a variety of walls that were Tetris-themed, inflatable, free-standing, timed and ranging in difficulty from beginner to extreme, and each impressed with their talents and commitment.

This term, the class are using Rock Climbing as the basis of an inquiry project into how movement occurs and how energy is produced. Discussion has centred around movement at joints and how blood and oxygen flow around the body, and the experience of visiting Clip 'n' Climb in Berwick was the perfect opportunity to put this learning into practice and apply the science to real-life sport.

The students had a great time and would certainly recommend you give it a try if interested in some adrenaline-pumping activity.

Senior Boy’s Cricket Round 2

On Thursday 27 February, we ventured out on a crisp clear morning to The Heather Brae Reserve in Officer to play Mt Eliza Secondary College. Upon winning the toss we elected to bat but were in early trouble as Dhanusha Gamage was bowled in the first over for a duck, but it could have been even worse as Mt Eliza dropped two catches in the early overs. We needed to steady and for a while we did that with Daniel Cameron scoring a quick 16. However, he was out when the score was still only 23. During this time Ben McDonald was steadily compiling runs and made an invaluable 22 before succumbing when the score was on 43.

At 3/43 the game was in the balance but our captain, Shishir Kulkarni, knew what he had to do and gave a batting masterclass, gradually batting himself in and then launching a savage attack as he compiled a brilliant knock of 81. At the other end wickets were still falling steadily but in the end we had made 7/146 from our 20 overs. A great score but things were not looking good at the start of Mt Eliza’s innings as they plundered our bowling to all parts of the park. Enter Daniel Cameron who took a wicket with his first ball, the first of two that he would take. Sean Lindsay, our wicket keeper, took a screamer of a catch in that dismissal, the first of four catches that he would take for the innings. At that time Mt Eliza was right on target to be able to make the runs. But we stuck to our guns, dug deep and kept taking vital wickets every time it looked like the match was slipping away. Our fielding was spot on and helped put pressure on Mt Eliza. Ramkishore Ramkumar, who had previously been expensive, chipped in with two wickets and Ben McDonald capped off a great day with two of his own. In the end we had restricted Mt Eliza to a score of 9/103.

Another great win by the boys, but next week we play Frankston High school, a school which has been historically a very strong team for us to beat. Sounds difficult? Let’s embrace the challenge!
