Nossal reaches out to Swifts Creek

Last week, we published a Special Edition of the Nossal newsletter which focused on a project being carried out by our student body, led by the School Captains Team.  If you missed it, follow this link to read their important message.  https://inewsletter.co/176DOY/nossal-news-2020-issue-three/#/0

Swifts Creek
Swifts Creek

Swifts Creek is a small township approximately 380km east of Melbourne, in the Tambo Valley of East Gippsland.  In the recent bushfires, while the P-12 school was not damaged, many of the properties its 130 students live on or pass on their way to school, were impacted by the fires. Our School Captains decided, and have been supported by our School Council, to make Swifts Creek P-12 school the focus of our bushfire relief fundraising.

The fundraising target for this term is $3,000.00.  All money raised will go towards staging a concert in Term 2, in Swifts Creek. The program for the event will include a feature act as well as performances by students from both Swifts Creek and Nossal schools. The event will be open to all residents of Swifts Creek and surrounding areas with the focus on raising the spirits of the community.

The challenge for our students, is to raise as much money as possible and so the Captains have planned an 'Out of Uniform" Day for this coming Friday when students are encouraged to wear something red or orange in recognition of the efforts of the emergency services who saved the town and the school from fire. The day will also feature a sausage sizzle at lunchtime and we are indebted to our friends at the Rotary Club of Berwick, who will not only donate their large barbeque for the lunch, but also have members there to do the cooking.

The fundraising dollars have been stretched further by the generous support of a number of sponsors of the event.  Their contributions have enabled the students to purchase all of their supplies without needing to redirect money from the money that will be collected next Friday.  Thank you to the following organisations and we ask that you support them as much as possible in recognition for what they are doing to help Nossal.

If you would like to help the students achieve their fundraising target, you can either donate at the school's office, or call the school on 8762 4600 and make either a credit card donation or request the direct deposit details.

Federation University campus works

Students and parents are advised that in addition to the works currently being undertaken in Clyde Road as part of the level crossing removal project, preparatory tasks for the sub-division of the former total Monash University site are continuing and during the upcoming school holiday period, exploratory works will be carried out along Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard.

Clearly the timing of these activities will mean little to no inconvenience to the majority of our school community, however it is timely to remind everyone to ensure their safety in future works by asking motorists to ensure they are driving at the signposted speed limit and pedestrians walking only on the asphalted footpath unless otherwise directed by safety barricades.

In this round of works, detours will operate from Tuesday 7 to Thursday 9 April 2020.

School Photos Update

For those who registered online to view 2020 images, please watch for notification.  Photos will be out this week. All families will receive an email with their child's unique code that will enable them to view the photos once they are ready for ordering.
