Youth Mass
Twice a term, the 5.30pm Sunday mass is celebrated with the youth of our parish. O'Connor students perform many of the ministries including welcoming, reading, and music. This Sunday, the 25th of February is the first of these masses for 2018. It would be great to see as many of the O'Connor community attend this mass to help our parish to be a vibrant and exciting community. Make this mass your mass!
Lenten Program
Every Thursday at 8.00am leading up to Easter Mrs Fittler leads a Lenten group at Mary's altar in the De La Salle Chapel. It is a time for reflection and prayer using the Gospel readings for the upcoming Sunday as the basis for the activities. The overall theme is 'Blessed and Broken" which explores through the readings, the redemption available to everyone through Christ's love. All students, parents, carers and friends are very welcome to attend.
Isaac Selvey
In great news for the College, we are able to host two Lasallian Youth Ministers to assist with the faith life of the College. We have been lucky enough to retain Olivia Moore from last year, and we have secured the services of ex student, Isaac Selvey. Both these ministers have roles which encourage students and promotes the faith life of the College. They are instrumental in organising retreats, liturgies and generally working with students as role models and witnesses to our faith.
Project Compassion
The eldest member of each family at O'Connor has been given a Project Compassion box to take home, in order to help raise much needed funds for Caritas. Caritas is the official charity of the Catholic Church and reaches out to many of the poorest communities around the world. Caritas provides infrastructure and training to empower communities develop a healthy sustainable life. If all students can contribute their change to these boxes and return them on Holy Thursday, we will make a big difference in peoples' lives. In Nepal, a Caritas supported program has helped Janaki turn her life of poverty and disadvantage around. She is now running her own successful sewing business, training others and has become a role model in her community. Please donate to Project Compassion 2018 and help our most vulnerable neighbours in Nepal to build a just future for their families and community.
Lent and Reconciliation
The following is from the Church Ordo. The Ordo is a reference book for the celebration of Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours in Australia.
THE SEASON OF LENT is the most appropriate time for celebrating the SACRAMENT OF PENANCE. Already on Ash Wednesday the people of God has heard the solemn invitation, turn away from sin and believe the good news.
It is therefore fitting to have several penitential celebrations during Lent, so that all the faithful may have an opportunity to be reconciled with God and their neighbour, and so be able to celebrate the paschal mystery in the Easter Triduum with renewed hearts.
The Sacrament of Penance is better celebrated before rather than during the Easter Triduum.’
