Inquisitive Minds Workshop

On Thursday 12 October, 16 of our keen Year 8 Maths students travelled to Mater Dei Catholic College to participate in the Inquisitive Minds Workshop.

The day involved students from Mater Dei, Kildare, TRAC and Narrandera High schools to compete in pairs (firstly within their own school and later in the day with someone from a different school) to answer mathematical problems.

The program comprised of 2 sessions, with winners at the end of each, and were interspersed with mini ‘lessons’ on how to solve particular problems.

One of the most memorable puzzles was when each pair were linked together with ropes and they had to ‘unlink’ each other without taking the ropes off their wrists. Only 1 pair (Sarah Vickers and her partner from another school) were able to think ‘outside the box’ enough to untangle themselves!

A great day was had by all, competing against other pairs, challenging themselves and meeting students from other schools. Kildare had 3 first places, (Mason Crain, Jackson Nejman and Jacinta Byrne) and 3 third places (Sam Emery, Ned Mazzocchi and Lauren McAlister). This was out of 64 students.

Well done Kildare!
