SHOWING OUR LOVE FOR OTHERS

CUT OUT , DECORATE AND RETURN THE ATTACHED HEART TO SCHOOL – HERE’S WHY….

Dear St Fidelis families,

Things are very different at the moment and it can be difficult to explain these differences to our children.  We have just celebrated Easter and as Fr Cartwright reminded us on Easter Sunday the events of the Easter story can help us to cope in these challenging times.

On Holy Thursday Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to teach us the importance of serving others.  On Good Friday Jesus suffered and died on the cross to show his love for us.  On Easter Sunday we celebrated the hope of eternal/new life.

The TV ads are reminding us that ‘We are all in this together’, which is not only true but also reassuring.  We also want our children to understand that by keeping the rules of social distance, even when it is hard, we are putting others before ourselves – being of service to others.

Our students, through their Catholic education, are taught the importance of thinking about others, putting the needs of other first and treating everyone with love and care.  As our Vision statement says, Jesus and St Fidelis were both shining examples of making sacrifices for the love and care of others.  We are putting our Catholic beliefs into action and our children can relate to caring and loving others.

This Friday is also the feast day of St Fidelis.    During his early life, Mark Rey (St Fidelis), spent his time as a lawyer helping others by representing those who were poor or disadvantaged.  He was known as the poor man’s Lawyer.  He changed his career to become a Capuchin Friar and died on April 24, 1622 trying to spread the word of Jesus Christ in a very hostile environment.

Considering these three events at this time: Easter, St Fidelis’ Feast Day and the rules of Social distancing we are inviting our families to help spread the word of our love for others.  The windows facing Lever St now have a banner stating “Staying Home For The Love Of Others”, to remind us all that we are doing this not for ourselves but because we love and care about others in our families, in our community and throughout the world.

We have also attached a special heart to this bulletin which reinforces this message of our love and care for others.  We are asking families to cut out the heart shape, colour-in or decorate the words and if you wish you can put your initials on the back (totally optional) and return the finished hearts to school either by email or place them in the school letterbox when you are out walking.  We’ll laminate the hearts and pin them on the fences around the school.  We are showing the community our understanding of the importance of our love and care for others.

If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email, micheleh@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au

Special thanks to Mr Frazzetto for his help in designing our hearts and banner.

Parent Resource

This last couple of weeks has been a real challenge for all of us. We have faced things that we have never or rarely had to do before. Now is the time we have to support one another and be patient as we deal with things the best possible way we can. I found this Web Page recently and I think it is a very valuable resource to have a look at and possibly use in your home environment. Please stay safe and look after another.
