Lockdown shock turns to joy as students return

I sat stunned looking at the news at the end of last week as the reality of the snap lockdown hit me. I just could not believe that we would have to remain home and enter into distance learning again. But then I witnessed the staff quickly switch into planning mode and the adaptability was amazing. During numerous Google Meets on Monday, I saw the dedication and time that our Learning Mentors devoted to ensure both learning tasks and supports were in place for our students. On Tuesday, I was so proud to see just how far our students have come. On the whole, they were flexible, patient and showed a real perseverance to ensure they found their learning tasks and worked their way through them. The news on Wednesday was welcomed and it was fantastic to see the students return on Thursday. For a short while on Thursday morning it was like they hadn’t seen each other for years, but they soon made their COVID greetings and got back into the learning groove.

College expectations

I see and hear our expectations of respecting everyone and everything, doing our best and helping others succeed in action all the time around the college. On occasion however, a small number of students fall below what is expected and use words or language that may offend or hurt others. We just cannot accept this. We pride ourselves on our students coming to school feeling safe and valued. I do not want one student feeling less than they are and we as staff are focused on ensuring this is the case. I please ask that you have a conversation with your child/ren and support the staff by reinforcing the importance of treating each other with respect and as equals.

Student-friendly Child Safe Policy explored

School of Innovation (SOI) students and staff are reading and exploring the student-friendly Child Safe Policy written by students Alick Jarvis, Chiara Villani, Riley Okely and Mia Borzillo in 2020. They will be gaining an understanding of what is in the policy with lots of conversation around this and the issues it may bring up. Soon all students should have an understanding of this policy and expectations and will have signed the agreement. Please find a copy attached below.
