School Council
Being a school council member means taking part in shaping the future of the school. You will need to attend meetings and may need to develop new skills.
In most cases you need to be elected to become a council member. Elections happen by March each year and all parents and guardians from the school can vote.
If you're elected, you're a council member for two years.
A friendly reminder that nominations for School Council close this Monday, 22 February.
To date, we have received no nominations, but given the week involved a three day lock down, this doesn't surprise me. Please consider nominating yourself or a friend.
Back into the school routine...
Following our 3 day lock down, it was terrific to have all the students back at school yesterday, with our Preps completing their first full day at school and enjoying break times with all the other students. Our Preps certainly looked tired at the end of the day, but they were well looked after by their teachers and Grade 6 Buddies.
In the above photo you can see some of our Grade 6 Buddies playing a game with their Prep Buddies. It was wonderful to watch them in action: explaining the rules of the game, encouraging them and seeing plenty of smiles all round.
Covid Safe Practices at ACPS
Please remember to wear a mask and hand sanitise when visiting classrooms or the office. Masks should be worn outside if you cannot socially distance from other parents/carers. As this can get tricky, my recommendation is that parents wear masks while on the school grounds.
Reader's Workshop in Action
Reader's Workshop is a strong focus in this year's Annual Implementation Plan for ACPS. This term, students across the school are learning more about the model and the stages within it. 3/4M is learning about I do, You do, We do. Here the students were silently reading and using post it notes to record their ideas, feelings and questions about the book they have chosen to read.
Maria Healey is our school's Literacy Leader and is doing a fabulous job of leading literacy across the school. This year Maria Healey 5/6H, Sian McQualter 3/4M and I will be completing the year long Bastow - Leading Literacy course.
Intended outcomes for the course... "Leading Literacy will immerse your school team in the latest evidence-based research about literacy teaching and learning. You'll build your capability to motivate, engage and support your students to become better readers and writers.
In close collaboration with skilled practitioners and your peers, you'll plan and develop a literacy initiative tailored to your school.
You'll explore strategies to successfully lead this initiative and embed high-quality literacy practices that significantly improve student achievement."
Literacy and numeracy resources for remote learning
Thank you for the feedback I have received regarding your child's learning through the various lock downs. For those of you looking for more learning for your child during these times, I have attached a link to the Department of Education's Useful Resources for Remote Learning (in addition to resources and materials from your early childhood service or school).

It may be worth saving the link somewhere for future use.
