Greetings to parents, students, teachers and stakeholders, from Miss Wells.

As a new inductee into Harvey Ag, I would like to introduce myself.

In my role as Teacher, I am responsible for Year 11 and 12 ATAR, Year 12 General and Year 10 Animal Production Systems, Year 11 Accounting and Finance.  I have an industry background that includes teaching, retail and farming. My hobbies include Careers (Where are the jobs now? Where will they be in the future? What skills, knowledge and understandings will they require?).  Also gardening and various hand crafts (regularly knitting booties and bonnets for premature babies).

It is through the career aspects of my hobbies that I hope to feature regularly in the Weekly Wrap-up with snippets of information that you will find interesting, timely and helpful. Should you wish to discuss any issues that are raised or discuss your child’s future pathway, then I am only a phone call away.

So, through this space I will endeavor to keep you posted on opportunities that you may wish to consider further, for example University Open Days, apprenticeship and traineeship information, employment opportunities, scholarships, trending industry and skills sets etc.  As this section develops I will create a list of useful weblinks.

Scholarships

The first weblink is for scholarships, it can be found on the "Good University Guide”. https://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au/scholarships

This link allows you to search for the scholarships being offered to all universities in Australia. Firstly, select a state and you will see the scholarship offerings.  You can be more specific by narrowing the search down to your field of interest.

It is recommended that if you are seeking to apply for a scholarship, then you need to know the requirements. Some scholarships require basic information, others have a more complex application process. Start the process now so you can be prepared ahead of time.

The next article will have a link to a career quiz that may be useful in guiding students who are not sure of what they are interested in or requiring information on their chosen career. Some are quick and easy, while others are quite long. You can choose the amount of time you spend in selecting a career for your future earnings.

Research shows that people spend a lot of time and energy researching the details, performance capabilities and price of their next car, but they spend little time researching the job that will provide them with their income.
