Year 8 boys at the Victorian Schools Football Championships
On July 22 our Senior Girls Netball team competed in the Regionals at NETS Stadium at Macleod. Well done to our girls who competed in some very close matches. In their first match Northcote were narrowly defeated by Mt Ridley 20-12. Next up they had an easy win over Melbourne Girls College 26-14, their third match was a close tussle against Diamond Valley who defeated our girls by 1 point (24-23).
Thank you to Ms Gollan for coaching the team.
Congratulations to our Intermediate Girls on making the Regional Finals. In our first game we beat Kyneton by 3 points. A quick thinking Sophie Hargreaves kicked a great goal off the ground. Our next game we were beaten by Melbourne Girls. In our last game we led the eventual winner Montmorency till late in the game losing by several points. To be so competitive and have no injuries from the game was a great result. In the ruck Maddi Katerelos showed great determination and ability. A big thankyou to Minnie O’Sullivan and Sophie Hetherington who covered the goal and boundary umpiring duties and to our wonderful student coaches Tess and Georgia Warncken.
Mr Price
Well done to our Intermediate and Junior Boys teams who recently competed in the Regional Netball Event held at NETS Stadium in Macleod.
Our Intermediate Boys came out strong in their first match against Mt Ridley scoring early. They held onto their lead to win 7-5. In their next match against Montmorency our boys were 3 goals down at half time. They clawed their way back to even up the score. From there both teams went goal for goal with the game ending up with a draw – 12 -12. Having 1 win and 1 draw, meant that in order to make it into the finals our boys had to beat their next opponent University High by over 20 goals. The boys well and truly dominated this match all over the court. They worked hard and fast to get as many goals as they could in the 2 x 10 minute halves. They finished off winning 23-3, they hoped this would be enough to finish on top of their pool. It instead left them sitting equal with Montmorency. After some anxious moments while the officials were tallying the overall scores, we eventually missed out on playing in the final only by percentage. Montmorency ended up losing in the final by only 1 goal to the overall winners Gladstone Park. Special mention to tactical coaches Lucinda Grage-Perry and Alice Montague.
In the Junior Boys competition, our team combined well to have an easy win in their first match defeating Mt Ridley 16-8. The boys continued their winning streak to defeat Macleod 18-10 and Brunswick 19-9. Finishing on top of their pool they then moved into the final against Montmorency. After leading at the end of each of the first three quarters they were beaten by 2 goals at the end of the game. So close to progressing to the State finals. Special mention to all the boys who teamed so well (Mitch Lester – highest scorer in the tournament) and also to the coach Alanah Namor.
Both of our boys teams should be congratulated for their teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the whole day. This is really something they should be proud of.
One the 1st of August, the Year 7 Football team travelled to CT Barling Reserve in Reservoir for the second round of the Victorian Schools Football Championships. The team had already easily progressed through the first round of the competition, in Term 2, with crushing wins over local sides Preston High School, Lalor Secondary College and Thornbury High School.
In Round 2, the festival of winning continued for Northcote with a large victory over Kyneton team Sacred Heart College. Captain Isaac Bartley marshalled a disciplined defensive six, providing a guiding light for the rest of the team to follow. At the opposite end of the ground Toby Stanford provided a focal point, contributing three goals. Keeping Sacred Heart scoreless, the Northcote Team managed to pile on 49 points.
Immediately after their thumping win over Sacred Heart, the team had to back up against Brunswick Secondary School. The boys looked lacklustre early with Brunswick showing the benefits of rested legs. However, the likes of Luca Palumbo, Jack Moston and Mathew Longden began to turn the tide with relentless gut running in the midfield. After being over a goal down early, the team came up with the chocolates, eventually winning 20 – 16.
Unfortunately, the toll of injuries began to tell in game three and the team was outplayed by a barnstorming Viewbank team – Northcote going down 40 – 14. Even whilst the chips were down, players such as Euan Carter, Keir Lucas, Soul Stewart and Moses O’Carroll kept persisting until the final siren.
Under the tutelage of their wise and able coach Connor Lester (Year 11), the team was able to develop their football and develop new friendships along the way. A massive thank you must go to Connor and Sports Assistant Pauline Dridan, whose efforts really were the heart and soul of the team.

On Thursday the 1st of August, the Year 9&10 boys soccer team travelled to Darebin International Sport Centre to compete in the Northern Metropolitan Regional soccer competition. The boys had a very successful day out winning all of their games in the group stages. They then progressed to the final where they faced St Helena Secondary College, they played extremely well and ended up winning the final 2 - 0. The boys will progress to the next stage which is the state finals in September.

Australia’s largest marathon festival is only 10 weeks away, with distances including 3km walk, 5.7km, 10km, half marathon and marathon all featuring iconic Melbourne landmarks and finishing inside on the hallowed turf of the MCG. Last year we had 9 Northcote High School teachers represent the school across various distances. This year we are extending the offer to our Northcote community to get involved whether it be walking with friends and family, challenging yourself to a new distance, or just aiming for a new Personal Best there is an event for anyone. Joining the NHS team is simple just follow the instructions below;
