Creating delicious food

Focus on Food

Year 8 Focus on Food have been learning all about diet related diseases and discussing foods that can help limit these. Last week 8B did a fantastic job of making a broad bean, pea, spinach and bacon risotto. They even got to pick some of NHS’s home grown parsley to use for a garnish. This fun practical session then lead to an analysis of the suitability of the meal for someone with type 2 diabetes.

#welovefood

Year 9 #welovefood have made a promising start to the semester. We began by reflecting on food in the media and how it can effect our food choices.

So far, we have developed cooking skills in making Quiche Lorraine, the perfect pavlova and Turkish bread. The class have been considering food photography and ways in which mobile phones can be utilised to take photos to enhance the appeal of the recipes they make. This will help students to create their own class recipe book.

This week, we worked in teams of three to produce fresh Turkish bread, cheese twists and two delicious dips.

Coming up for #welovefood:  Next week we will be starting the first CAT which involves evaluating the validity of a health article in relation to others that agree and disagree with the claims of the article. For practical, we will be learning about Indian cuisine and using our photography skills to photograph the Indian curry we make in class.
