The Prep Team

Buddy Project.

Buddy Program

This week we launched the Caulfield Junior College Buddy Program with our Preps and Year 5 students. The students met for lunch on Wednesday and started to get to know one another.

What is the Buddy Program?

The Buddy program involves children starting school and those in older grades. The purpose of a buddy program is to support a smooth transition for children starting school. Schools report that the programs promote social and support networks for children beginning Prep and promote a sense of community and belonging in the school. There are also benefits for the older buddy in acknowledging their leadership, responsibility and pride in their ability to be helpful.

What will the students do in the Buddy Program?

Throughout the year, the Year 5 students and Preps will meet to engage in meaningful collaborative activities that will promote their social and emotional wellbeing.

Examples of activities include may include:

  • Drawing a portrait of their buddy
  • Nature scavenger hunt
  • Guided reading
  • Picnic lunches outside
  • Board games.

Air AEFE Project.

Quite a few classes have taken part in the competition organised by the Lycee Condorcet in Sydney around the theme “The Air. This week, another class of Prep created pretty boomerangs around a beautiful quote. Our Grade 2 and 3 students wrote their own poems.

Good luck everyone, you have been very inspired and so original in your creations!

Harmony Day.

Harmony Day is an opportunity to celebrate and embrace diversity, it promotes social cohesion and racial harmony, and it is expressed through community participation, inclusiveness, respect and belonging. These are beautiful values that CJC defends and stands for.

Students took part in a selection of art activities to create a stunning garden, adorned with bees, butterflys and picturesque blossoming flowers. These will adorn the school’s fence for all passers-by to see and marvel at!  Students from Prep to Year 6 worked together in harmony, embracing the use of striking colours to express themselves.  Students had lots of fun and made some incredible artwork.

"Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Held every year in March, Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination."

Lightning Premiership.

Last Friday, CJC’s 5/6 cohort travelled to various sporting locations across the district to take part in the Summer Lightning Premiership. Each team played in a round robin tournament, playing basketball, softball, volleyball or cricket. It was a great day and each team represented the school extremely well.

Our division 1 softball team won their section, and will now go forward to the next round to represent our school at the Division Level.  Well done everyone!
