Boarding House News

Boys' Boarding

The boarding boys are making a positive contribution to the life of the College. They are having a go at all the programs being offered from Ex-Activities like rock climbing, OzTag, gym, Japanese and art. This week they starred in the House sports volleyball competition, and a number of them have joined the Sports Academy.

Last weekend they enjoyed time at the Alice Springs Aquatic Centre and Skatepark with Marea Moulton and William Phelps. On Sunday they visited the Museum of Central Australia and the Arts Centre, with Paul Bailey and Tammy Hawkins.

On Monday evenings the boys have a range of speakers presenting to them on topics varying from skating with Jack Farrell and Angus Pollitt to Physics with Dr Johnson.

This coming weekend the boys will be enjoying the 12 hour Mountain Bike Enduro action  at the Telegraph Station.

Girls' Boarding

It was a busy weekend as always in the girls’ boarding house.

We kicked the weekend off with games in the stadium on Friday night, a great way for the girls to let off some steam after a busy week of school work.

Cooked breakfasts have become part of our weekend routine in the boarding house and this weekend was no different, bacon and egg muffins on Saturday and pancakes on Sunday.

On Saturday morning half the girls took a trip into town, and after lunch there was time for one of several swims throughout the weekend. In the evening we went for a BBQ and swim at Sandi Crogan’s, a beautiful block out near the airport. Sandi was a boarder herself many years ago and has always made the boarders feel very welcome. For dinner we ate steak and garlic bread with a fresh and healthy salad on the side. It was great to see how much salad the girls ate! Everyone had such a great time at Sandi's house, swimming, chatting and relaxing by the pool.

On Sunday there were two trips on offer, a trip to the park and museum at the Araluen Arts Centre or a trip to Kmart followed by the Art Gallery at the Araluen Arts Centre. Some of our boarders went on both, some on one, and some of the older ones on neither, but it was good to see them have the choice.

After dinner it was time for chapel and it was great to see them looking so smart in their boarders’ shirts and blue or black pants. After the service it was time to get organised for the week ahead.

On Monday night the Sapphires played their best game of the year and although they didn’t win, they were far closer than in the previous two games with the final score being 29-40. Thanks to Ernie Fleming for finding the time to coach them and to Rebekah Birch for coming to support and encourage the girls.
