Wattle Group
It has been a busy start to the year for Wattle Group as the children continue to settle in and become familiar with the routine at kinder. The children are learning the names of their peers and teachers, Sometimes we are still referred to as “teacher” but that’s ok. The children have had fun exploring all the activities and experiences available at kinder, particularly enjoying our outdoor space. As the children become more familiar with the kinder environment and each other we will broaden the range of activities and experiences on offer.
The children have responded well to visual stories using felt board characters . We have done several familiar traditional fairy tales. After inviting the children to listen to these stories at group time we offered them the characters in a play space to retell the stories themselves.
Separation anxiety while still occurring at drop off is going in the right direction. As the children are only attending kindergarten once a week it is normal for them to take a little bit longer to completely settle into the program.
Lastly just a few tips to support your child’s independence at kinder:
-Shoes with no laces (velcro or elastic) are best but otherwise shoes they can put on and take off themselves are great.
-A nice big bag with extra space helps children pack it themselves without it being too challenging especially it they have art work to also pack.
-Minimal packaging in lunch boxes/ containers which they can open and such themselves are ideal. It is a great idea to have your child practice with their lunchbox and containers at home.
It has been such a fantastic start to the year for our Wattle Group and we are excited for the children to continue to develop confidence and build relationships in their new kinder environment.
