The beginning of the year has been highlighted with children sharing common interests, learning new things about each other and friendships being formed.It has also been lovely to observe children helping one another by sharing skills they are good at with one another. As teachers we are constantly amazed at children’s ability to accept and learn from one another.

The children have been coping very well with their long days at kinder. We have explored  a range of “Relaxation” based experiences which have included meditation, yoga and listening to stories. The children have responded well to a majority of these experiences with meditation perhaps being the most challenging for the children, however I believe that meditation is probably one of the more effective relaxation experiences for the children.

“Introducing relaxation techniques into rest routines would ensure that educators:

- meet children’s need for sleep, rest and relaxation (QA 2.1.2, Reg 81);

- assist children to recognise and communicate their bodily needs, such as rest (QA 2.1.2, LO 3.1)

- promote children’s awareness of a healthy lifestyle (QA 2.1.2, LO 3.2); and,

-increase children’s ability to assume greater responsibility for their own health and wellbeing (2.1.2, LO 3.1).

Most importantly, children would be equipped with a skill that will bring them wellbeing, now, and that they can benefit from throughout their lives.”

The children are growing their independence in many areas including managing their lunch boxes, packing their bags, putting on their sunscreen and putting on their shoes. To support your children to become independent you can practice using their lunch boxes at home and have your child pack their own bag in the morning.

Please remember to be sun smart and put sunscreen on your child prior to kinder and ensure their clothing covers their shoulders.

We have gotten off to such a fantastic start to the year and are looking forward to developing and expanding the children’s interests and skills.
