Eucalyptus Group

Welcome to Livingston Kindergarten Eucalyptus Group. The children are well settled into the group, despite having an up and down time with Covid-19 restrictions and drop off.

Some of the main focuses so far have been settling in and following routines and transitions, getting to know the educators and their peers and support their agency and exploration of activities in the program. About an hour into the session we stop to meet on the mat to acknowledge country and say hello / good morning. We have been discussing why we acknowledge country and who are the first Australians, and why it is important.

Some of the topics and ideas we have been exploring are - families, diversity/ differences and similarities, colour mixing, moving house, buildings, kindness (using the ‘Fill a bucket' story). This has been through a mix of discussions, activities and stories, games, puzzles and asking families to contribute family photos and home language greetings to make some class books.

We have also begun discussing the worm farm, the compost, and will continue the learning with the children across recycling, upcycling and how we need to look after the environment.

A little bit of house keeping:

  • We are still fine-tuning the SchoolStream platform so thanks for bearing with us.
  • Don’t forget to apply sunscreen before arriving at kinder and to pack some spare clothing in children’s bags.
  • During the year, before school starts it is always good to get children’s hearing and eyes checked so if there is any help needed it can be addressed before heading off to school.
  • We are still collecting family photos for our book and family greetings.

Now that restrictions allow it we really encourage setting up play dates with other class mates, as it they are good for many things. Learning to compromise, share, consider others, role-play, language and communication, and fostering friendships that transfer to kinder.

Thanks - Kirsty, Rex, Yvonne and Jane.
