Year 7A Activities

DRAMA

In drama, we have been story telling. One way to tell a story is that everyone says a line. Here is an example story from some of the girls from 7A.

One day, I was at home and I heard a noise. I heard a big crash from the attic. I had shivers down my spine as I walked down the stairs. I opened the door and out fell my dog. And before I knew it, my dog starts jumping around and barking. So I climbed up the ladder to the attic and I saw a creepy little doll sitting in the corner. It said, “Hi, my name is Sylvie.”

TO BE CONTINUED…

As you can see, everybody said their own line and it turned out like a real story. Maybe you could try this with your own family or at a sleepover with some friends, it could end up being hilarious!

SCIENCE

Science at Matthew Flinders is unique and special in its own way. The teachers are understanding and very educational on the subject. I am not sure if other people enjoy science, but I find it calming, fun and it always keeps me on my toes which I find exhilarating.

As of the second week of being a year 7 at Matthew Flinders, we have done two experiments. The first one, being the exploding milo tin, Ms Harper put gas into a milo tin, and she put the gas on fire, then turned the gas off, then waited for the gas to burn out. When it did, the tin’s lid popped off.

The second experiment was the diet coke and mentos experiment. In the diet coke bottle, the mentos candy provides a rough surface that allows the bond between the carbon dioxide gas and water to break more easily helping to create carbon dioxide bubbles. As the mentos candy sinks to the bottom, the candy causes the production of more and more carbon dioxide bubbles. The bubbles need oxygen, so they rise to the top causing an eruption.

Our result was poor and did not explode as well as we thought. Maybe if we had more mentos, heated the coke up or shaken it we would have a better result.

HUMANITIES

In year 7 in Humanities we have been learning about our family trees. Maybe you can learn about yours and make your own.

MATHS

4 – 4 + 4 – 4=???

This is a four fours puzzle. You use four fours to make an equation. You can use squared numbers, square roots, take away, addition, multiplication, division, algebra and brackets to make the equation of your choice. You start out with an equation that equals 0, then you make an equation that equals 1, then 2, then 3 and so on.

How many equations can you make? Try it out with your family or friends.

HEALTH

It’s the start of a new year 2021, 2020’s gone so let’s have some fun.

We all know 2020 was hard but we all pushed through it, it was a tough year for many of us. It’s made an impact on our mental, physical, social health we all know that.

Some recommendations to help our mental health are seeing a therapist, go for a walk, meditation, do some mindfulness coloring, have a nap.

For our physical health we can go to the gym, do a sport out of school, go for a walk, ride a bike and many more things.

For our social health we can FaceTime friends, go join clubs in or out of school, get a job to help with social speaking, play a team sport.

We all know there are plenty of other things we could do to help with our health in all ways possible.

Since we are all at home, maybe we should start eating healthier, like this chart.
