Weird Sisters Poetry Club

This a selection of poetry from The Weird Sisters Poetry Club facilitated by Ms Annie Mullen-Walsh, which meets every second Tuesday.

This week’s prompt was ‘this year’, with suggestions of an optimistic tone and use of colour to add meaning.

THIS YEAR

A smile and a wish.

A victory and a kiss.

Safe and secure.

No lockdown to bore.

A breezy blue to guide.

A rehabilitation from the fires.

A time for amends.

Wildlife and nature become our friends.

Rubbish picked from the sea.

Save the turtles says she.

Carbon footprint down low.

Global warming begins to go.

Refugees become free.

Endangered orang-utans among the tree.

A time for rebirth.

A time for hope.

Green life comes after the horror scope.

A soft caress

enlightens the skin

 to a renewal of sensation

as I awaken to space

the brightness of blue

shatters to expose

infinity.

Bright bright yellows

I will love you til death

with my poetic soul mellow.

Or do you wish to give me a chill

Please oh no! The yester year I already passed

by my window sill.

But oh do give me blooms!

And her hand so tender too!

Tender hand which I can touch

With the words I say

I love you very much

And lips to taste sweetness

New year you are blushing!

Did I go too far, did I say too much?

Oh New Year don’t stop me!

Don’t hold me!

Don’t impede!

I have already planted a million seeds

oh seeds, oh seeds!

Red roses for fancy poses

and yellow sunflowers

for the hours

I merry which to spend

and there another moment of yours

Go New Year

 a moment well spent!

Let’s paint a rainbow New Year!

A rainbow that covers

breadth far and near

Oh let’s cheer and cheer!

And take relish of you my dear, New Year!
