Prep - Grade 2

A glimpse into a Mathematics session in grade 2!

We have so much fun in Mathematics sessions in our classroom and there are always a range of activities to engage all different styles of learners whenever a topic is covered.

The numeracy sessions vary from day to day, sometimes there will be rotations occurring with materials and activities pre-selected to assist students to better understand abstract concepts with physical materials and other times there may simply be a 'worded problem' posed to the class that they need to work through in partners, as a group or independently.  Individual or small groups of students usually work with the teacher to either extend or support their understandings and there are always opportunities throughout the lesson for peer mentoring and sharing of knowledge between students.

We are very well resourced at Weeden with mathematical supplies; this ensures that access to materials to support a students learning are always readily available!

Last year we introduced 'Mathematics Tubs' into the classrooms and a lot of thought went into ensuring that every single classroom has as many resources as they

would require to adequately teach all aspects of any unit they would cover.
