In Week 4 the Year 10 Applied Science class went on an excursion to Melbourne Zoo as part of our Psychology unit. We participated in their ethics and research methods program, which involved discussions about how to ethically interact with, study, and keep animals, as well as a practical investigation into the activity levels of orangutans in captivity compared to those in the wild.
Although the weather was a bit overcast, we could still enjoy being outdoors, seeing the animals, and applying some of the concepts we had learned in class.
I look forward to repeating this excursion with the Life Science class in Term 2.

I think it was good because we could learn hands-on and it was so much more interesting than just writing about it.

I enjoyed the zoo as I got to see and understand more about animals and how they do experiments that are ethical with animals. I enjoyed learning about how psychology is used with animals.
