News from our Year 6 leaders

Dear Families,
On the 3rd of March, the Year 6’s got their amazing, spectacular jackets and their leadership badges. They all had their names on the jackets, and it was presented by Steve Dimopoulos, the local State Member of Parliament. Everyone was allowed to ask him questions, the whole school was there and some of the Year 6 Families were there.
They all wore the jackets with joy and they looked awesome on them and they will for the rest of the year. All of the Grade 6s were so happy that they all were jumping in joy and were unable to put their badges on because they were so happy. Jia and I, (Sarika) both had been waiting for this moment for 7 years now and it was just a very emotional moment for both of us and the others.

Year 6 Jackets
Dear Families,
On the 3rd of March, the Year Sixes were presented with their new long-awaited special jackets and their amazing leadership badges. They were handed out by the local State Member Steve Dimopoulos, an Australian politician who is a part of the Victorian Parliament. He has been a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2014.
We had the pleasure of asking Steve some great questions like, “What does a normal day look like for you?” and “What does responsibility mean to you?” He answered them all with details and it was quite an experience for all of us to have our local member of parliament present us with our Year 6 jackets. We love our new jackets and we wear them with pride as they represent our school and as we represent being the leaders of the school wearing them.

Jacket presentation
On the third of March, the Grade 6’s were presented with their special Year 6 jackets and their badges that represented their leadership . The excitement when the 6’s got their jackets was long-lasting, most importantly we had a special guest who presented the wonderful jackets “Steve Dimopoulos”.
He has been a part of the Labour party in the Victorian Legislative Assembly . He began his career as an Victorian politician in 2014 as a representative for the electoral district of Oakleigh. It was a pleasure to ask him questions about his career, for example, “ what does a normal day look like for you?” . He inspires all of us to stick up for others as he noticed the problems in his local community and decided to step up and take responsibility.
Clean up Australia Day recount
By Miranda and Hillary
On Friday the 3rd of March it was Clean Up Australia day. Students from all over our school helped pick up some rubbish. The students donated $8 to clean up Australia day. We collected 8 bags of rubbish. For example, we collected soft plastic (the most popular), hard plastic, metal, foil, fruit, etc. The Sustainability leaders spent all their snack time handing out gloves and picking up rubbish. Thanks to the Sustainability team for helping out and all the volunteers.
Clean Up Australia Day
On Friday the 3rd of March, St Peter’s held an event for Clean up Australia Day. Besides the Year 6 Sustainability Team many other students helped as well from Foundation to Grade 6. They all jumped in and participated in this event. Now if we compare the before of Clean up Australia Day to after our school is much cleaner and sustainable. You will be surprised by the amount of rubbish we collected on the day. There are big and small bags of soft plastic, cardboard (paper) and hard plastic plus other trash as well. The most amount of rubbish collected was soft plastic.
