Message from the Principal

St Peter’s School- an empowered faith community to enrich the world

Welcome to Week 8 Term 1

To provide a vibrant learning culture for our community of learners to thrive, guided by faith and  compassion.

This week is Catholic Education Week (12-19 March) and is an opportunity for all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne to celebrate their Catholic identity and the role they play within their local community.

This year the theme is 'Forming lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Christ'

Forming lives – Catholic education seeks to provide the young with the best kind of education possible, one that fosters a formation of the whole person that is deeply and enduringly humanising.

Faith, hope and love – Catholic education forms individuals with more than just skills, but with the virtues to live life as transformative agents in our communities. By cultivating a maturing of faith and the intellectual life through the modelling of good relationships, Catholic students are prepared for living fruitfully in the world.

In the light of Jesus Christ – Christ is our inspiration, the very life of our purpose as Catholic educators. Everything we do is illuminated by this.

At St Peter's School, our aim each day is to positively influence each student to live a life inspired by Jesus.

News Corp has launched its ‘Australia’s Best Teachers’ campaign and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) is a major partner. Australia’s Best Teachers aims to recognise the wonderful work of those in the profession by celebrating our most inspirational and innovative educators. The campaign calls on Australians to nominate the great teachers who have, and have had, an incredible impact on our students and all of our lives. A panel of expert judges will then select and announce the top 50 teachers on Saturday 6 May 2023. We have some great teachers at St Peter's School and I would like to encourage the entire school community to contribute nominations via the following link: www.heraldsun.com.au/news/australias-best-teachers-news-corp-series-to-recogniseinspirational-teachers/news-story/7f3b0ccc1f8c2bdf4a7c56814c56b995.

Uniform review

Would you like to be part of a working committee to review our school uniform?

Our first meeting will be Thursday 30 March at 2:30pm.Please email principal@spclayton.catholic.edu.au if you are interested.

The group will look at our current uniform and ensure it represents the diverse cultures we have in our community. The group will not be looking at changing colours or designs, more updating the items to ensure they are flexible, with a 'mix and match' cpability.

I had a very productive meeting with Jen and Anna at PSW Ormond on Wednesday, where we looked at all the items  currently available.

I know from a survey I conducted last year, there was a request from parents for a raincoat.

One is now available through our uniform supplier.  This raincoat can be folded up and put in the school bag and be available for our unpredictable Melbourne weather. It will also be great for our students to take on excursions. It is priced at $48. The St Peter's beanie is also in stock at PSW and sells for $16.95.

Harmony Day

I urge you to read an invitation for our students from our Year 6 leaders regarding Harmony Day on 21 March.

Arrival at school

Thank you for your work in ensuring students do not arrive at school too early!  Please ensure your child arrives between 8:30am and 8:50am. Playground duty starts at 8:30am. We cannot have children arriving earlier as there are no staff available to supervise before 8:30am. If you need to drop your child off earlier to get to work, please use the services of Camp Australia.
