Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community,
Prayer
Jina and Massie
One of the characteristics that prospective parents notice and are impressed by when they come on tour of our school, is the diversity of heritages amongst our students. When I also explain that whilst being a Catholic School and privilege the Catholic Faith, we embrace students and their families from all faith backgrounds, they are further swayed to an understanding of our inclusive school community.
A couple weeks ago one of our mums Jina told me how she had recently been to her church of worship with her son Massie to celebrate New Year (according to the Persian calendar). Because of my ignorance, I was completely unaware of the size of the Christian Church in Iran and Afghanistan and of the persecution many Christians in these countries face to practice their religion.
My conversation with Jina about her and Massie's faith practices and resulting brief research about the history of the Christian Church in the countries that were once Persia, has given me a whole new insight into our universal church and how important it is to learn from those within our diverse community. Sacred Heart Primary School is a diverse community of which we should be so proud.
The beautiful and inspiring photo below is of Massie and Jina outside the Resurrection Persian Church in Diamond Creek, their place of worship.
Year Five/Six Camp
Our Year 5/6 students along with staff members Marty, James, Jess and myself are heading down to Phillip Island on Tuesday for camp. Our students will be on camp until Wednesday. An exciting three day range of activities have been organised for our students to experience. During my absence from school Kate will be in charge. I know camp will give our students many memorable experiences and will be a time of personal growth for each of them.
Hot Cross Bun Orders
Thank you to all involved in the hot cross bun fundraiser these past three weeks. The donation of buns by Dessy and Mark Haley and your great support has allowed $700 to be raised for our school. Again thank you so much.
Easter Raffle
Our Easter Raffle will commence this Friday with our students selling tickets after school each night. Tickets will be 50 cents or three tickets for a dollar. Again all money raised will go towards student resources and equipment. The raffle will be drawn next Thursday the last day of our first term.
Lauren
A reminder that our Year Four student Lauren is having some of her magnificent locks cut off by her mum Cherry this Monday at school. We are asking our students to bring a gold coin donation as support for Lauren's contribution to "Hair for Heart".
LSL
I will be taking the first week of next term as Long Service Leave. During my absence Jess will be Acting Principal.
Holiday Program
Please be aware that there is information contained in this newsletter on the OSHC page about the upcoming holiday program run by Youth Leadership Victoria.
Congratulations Veer
Congratulations to our Year Four student Veer who has just finished a very successful season for his cricket team winning both its batting and bowling averages. Well done Veer.
From the Parish Bulletin
A father is concerned about his son’s bad grades in maths so decides to enrol him at the local Catholic school. After one term the son brings home his report card. His results are excellent. An A for mathematics. The father is, of course, pleased, but says to his son, “Why are your maths grades suddenly so good?” “You know”, the son explains, “when I walked into the classroom the first day and I saw that man on the wall nailed to a plus sign, I knew one thing. This place means business.”

We have a beautiful new family who have joined our school community this year. Mum is on her own with her son and is urgently looking for some work. She has had a lot of experience in her former country of residence, working as a nurses assistant. If you know of any work in the "care" industry looking after people who need assistance, please let me know. I can vouch for this mum recommending her as a great worker with impressive personal qualities.
Yours Sincerely
