A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Farewell Mrs Hofman

Tomorrow will be Mrs Rebecca Hofman’s last day with us before she embarks on a period of maternity leave. We wish Mrs Hofman and her husband Justin all the best as they eagerly await the birth of their first child. We thank Mrs Hofman for her many contributions to our school community. Her love of learning and ability to work with teachers to ensure each student's learning needs are catered for have been outstanding. She has been instrumental in introducing innovative and fun learning experiences for our students particularly with the use of technology and with her Maker Monday sessions. Mrs Hofman has also coordinated our weekly Coolamon Challenge and the annual Art Competition.

NAPLAN News

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills. Each year students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

From 2023, NAPLAN is moving to Term 1 and will take place from Wednesday 15 March to Monday 27 March. The reason for this change is so that results can be returned to schools earlier in the year which will support teachers to understand the learning needs of their students and plan accordingly.

NAPLAN tests are just one part of our school learning assessment program and questions are primarily based on knowledge, understanding and skills gained from the prior year of schooling.

In preparation for NAPLAN 2023, our school will undertake activities to help students to become familiar with the format and functionality of the online tests. These activities are not an assessment of student ability and will not be marked.

Students and parents can access the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with NAPLAN and the types of questions and tools available. Excessive preparation for NAPLAN is not required nor recommended.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact your child’s teacher.

Art Competition

Entries are now open for our Annual Art Competition. The cost to enter is a Gold Coin donation and all monies raised will go towards Project Compassion. What an easy way to help those less fortunate and have fun as well. I can’t wait to see the amazing creativity of our students. Your child may enter many different art works. The entries will be displayed in the last week of term for parents/carers to come and enjoy!

PT & F

Our first PT & F Meeting for this year is on tomoorow evening Wednesday 8th March at 6.00pm. We have an enthusiastic committee who would love you to come along and give your support. The meetings are held in Mrs Bartholomew’s classroom so that if you need to bring your children they can play safely in the adjoining classroom.

Garden Lovers Club!

Our school gardens have produced many tomatoes and a huge amount of silverbeet! We need further planning to build upon this success. If you would like to join us and share your expertise or passion for gardening please come to a meeting next Wednesday 15th March at 2.00pm in the school library.

Have a joyful week.
