Across the Principal's Desk

The first term of the year has certainly gone by very quickly! There is always a lot happening in schools and we have accomplished a great deal in a relatively short period of time. Our Athletics Carnival was a highlight of the last couple of weeks. It was a cool day but the students competed with high levels of enthusiasm. The 100m Relays were a feature at the end of the day, with some impressive talent on display and some exciting finishes down the straight. A huge thank you to our Sports Coordinator, Mr Webb, for all of the time and effort that went into making it a successful day.

I have also really enjoyed our General Assemblies throughout the term. Our student leaders take charge and do a terrific job with the support of Mr Green, who regularly includes some entertainment which adds fun to the agenda. Mr McClure is doing a wonderful job in assisting our SRC members in their role across our school and they have been presenting many ideas to their peers and encouraging the support of all students. We’ve had a busy finish to the term with lots of student involvement and activities.

We had our Annual Report Presentation and the first meeting of our new School Council last Wednesday evening. Once again, I was very pleased to be able to present such a strong Annual Report which reflects the hard work we are putting into achieving positive outcomes for our students. Our data sets are strong when compared with similar schools and state averages. Thank you to all of our School Councilors for being prepared to play such an important role in the governance of our school. In particular, we thank Damian Ferarri for continuing in his role of School Council President and Donna Fraser for her support as Vice President. We really appreciate their commitment to our school.

We will hold Parent/Teacher Interviews on Wednesday 10th of May (the third week back after the holidays). We encourage parents to take the opportunity to discuss the progress of their child with teachers, so we look forward to seeing as many as people as possible.

On behalf of the staff at Beaufort Secondary College, I wish all students and their families a safe and enjoyable Easter break.
