From the Director of Primary

Welcome

I would like to warmly welcome Astrid Birley and Siska Hurd who have joined the College this term, and we welcome back Helen Richards after her long service leave last term.

The term has certainly commenced with great enthusiasm with Terrapin Puppet Theatre’s performance of Egg last week, presentations from Science students from the University and various class excursions.  Furthermore, the recent Learning Conferences allowed teachers, parents and students to discuss academic progress and to establish learning goals for the coming months.

Book Week Dress-Up and Assembly

Save the Date - Friday 23 August

This year the theme for Book Week is Reading is My Secret Power.  Students are invited to dress-up as their favourite character for the Book Week Parade which will be held on Friday 23 August. Throughout the week, the Year 10 Curriculum Leaders, in conjunction with the Primary Leaders, will host a variety of activities to encourage the students to consider the secret powers gained by reading: the power to walk in the shoes of others through their stories; the power to escape into other worlds; the power to expand one’s vocabulary and imagination and much more.

Focus of the Fortnight

The newly appointed Years 5 and 6 Leaders will continue to provide a fortnightly challenge to the primary students.  In doing so, the first challenge for the semester will be about how welcoming we are at the start of each school day.  By posing a series of questions:

  • “Do I say G’day to people at school in the morning?”
  • “How many people did I speak to this morning?”
  • “Can I go outside my friendship group today?”

The Leaders are encouraging us to be welcoming and inclusive of all.  A smile or a pleasant “G’day” goes a long way in making others feel connected and at ease.

Prep to Year 6 Assembly

Finally, due to the preparations for the College production next week, the Primary Assembly that was scheduled for next Monday will now take place in Week 4, Monday August 12.
