Year 8  Excursion:

Year 8 Salvation Army Excursion

Earlier this year some year 8 students had the opportunity to take part in a school sleepover for youth homelessness. To follow up and enhance our knowledge of homelessness the school organized an excursion to the Salvation Army in the city. On this day, roughly 50 students participated in a tour and a small group activity on the topic of homelessness. To tour consisted of three homeless stories of individuals that had their lives turned upside down. The stories opened us up to the reality of some people living in Melbourne and that life can have dramatic changes. The group activity gave us a better understanding of why people become homeless. We watched a video explaining the reasons why people become homeless, the meaning of homelessness, what the Salvation Army does to assist the homeless and the statistics of what causes homelessness. Overall the excursion was intriguing and a good experience for all who participated
