Students Trained in Peer Support

In the last week of Term 4, Year 9 students undertook an enjoyable training programme on being a Peer Support Leader.

The programme entailed training in Positive Peer Influence at the end of Year 9, to establish a group of leaders in Year 10 who will mentor a small number of Year 7 students in 2020. The idea is to form small family-sized groups of Year 7 students, each under the leadership of Year 10 students, and to provide security, guidance and friendship to help the Year 7 students adapt successfully to Senior School at Girton.

Young people absorb information and values from their peers and the Girton Peer Support Leader programme is aimed at supporting students in Year 7 who are transitioning into Senior School life.

Being a Peer Support Leader is a vitally important role, students who have undertaken this role have found it very rewarding and have acquired leadership skills that have benefited them in other areas of their life.
