Ulysses Community Report

May in Ulysses
While reading this past month we've been looking at making text to text, text to self and text to world connections. Talking about the books we read is a great way to help make connections.
We've been using Keynote to publish our persuasive texts, most students should have them ready to show at Parent Teacher Interviews later this term.
We're looking at additive thinking at the moment, some of us are working on addition of fractions with the same denominator while others are looking at using the jump strategy to effectively add and subtract on a number line.
We've researched all about Reconciliation Week over the past week, looking at the significance of Reconciliation Week as well as investigating the Aboriginal Culture. We've been lucky to have Billy to answer our questions and to share what his culture means to him at assembly.
During Inquiry we've been researching renewable energy types and are beginning to look at how we might make our own smaller scale solar panels or wind turbines!
Home Learning:
Please ensure your child is completing 15-20 minutes of reading each night and record their reading in their diary. Students get new spelling words each Friday and are expected to practice spelling them for 10-15 minutes each night. We are also beginning to learn our times tables to 12.
