Junior School Report

Hello and welcome to the latest Junior School update.

My name is Nicole Taylor and I’m writing the junior school report for this newsletter due to the very exciting arrival of a beautiful little girl to Mike Santo and his wife! A huge congratulations to you both and I hope you enjoy making the most of these first moments together as a family! While Mike is enjoying some family leave I will be backfilling his position as Mini School Leader. I’m very excited to get to know more faces by name around the corridors and I’ve already immensely enjoyed the high-fives and morning greetings and lunchtime stories! I will be here for the first two weeks of Term 3 so if you see me around, please feel free to say hi and have a chat.

Term 2 has definitely been busy for all members of the Junior School across a wide and exciting range of activities. There have been groups of students involved in a variety of sporting events, as well as visits to the recently opened and state of the art Gippsland Tech School. Here the students had the opportunity to engage with state of art technology including robots and I think it’s safe to say an enjoyable and educational experience was had by all. Other students still have been busily dancing and singing their way through rehearsals for the College production of Seussical Jr.! I certainly know I am looking forward to seeing the results of their time, effort and commitment on stage during Term 3. We also have some Junior School students currently away at the Leadership for Sustainability Outward Bound Camp where they are developing leadership and critical decision-making skills whilst challenging their self-beliefs about what they are capable of achieving if they persist. I am sure they will return with wonderful stories to share about the experience.

All Junior School students were fortunate enough to have a visit from motivational speaker, John Coutis. He was born with a severe physical disability that rendered his legs useless and defied medical opinion to survive. Students sat mesmerized as he rolled around the auditorium stage on his custom skateboard and used his unique brand of humour to communicate some of life’s most important lessons.

Semester 2 officially started on Monday 17 June and this has resulted in some changes of subjects to half year subjects. The exposure to as wide as possible spread of subjects across the full range of the College curriculum is vital for students so that they can be exposed to new ways of thinking and ideas so they can start to think about options they might like to pursue as they continue to progress through their education at Lowanna.

Finally, parents are reminded that Semester 1 reports will be available from today. If for some reason you have difficulty accessing this report or require a hard copy version, please contact the Junior School Office at the commencement of Term 3.

On behalf of the Junior School Team – Mike Santo, Elizabeth Robinson, Tammie Percivall and Anna Hirchfield – I would like to thank all Junior School staff, students and parents for their hard work this semester. I wish everyone a safe and happy break and to seeing everyone when students return for Term 3 on Monday 15 July.

Thank you.
