Assistant Principal's Report

It has been a very busy start to Term 2 and very quickly here we are in week 3.

This week we have seen the Elevate Program present to Year 9 and 10 students, showing them strategies on a variety of study skills. This is a great opportunity for students to learn new skills and put into practice some goals and planning for the rest of the term and year. The year 8’s will have their study session on the 16th May.

Also on the 16th May, we will be having a Headspace Parent Information Session. The information session is open to all parents that have students at the college in year 7-12. The information session covers adolescent brain development, common mental health difficulties, identifying signs that a young person needs support, having “the conversation” about mental health and then connecting to appropriate support services.

This will be held in our school Theatre which is part of the Admin block from 6pm till 7pm.

To register please go to our website and book through our Trybooking link: https://www.trybooking.com/BCJHS

I look forward to seeing you on the night.

Week 4 will continue to be busy, firstly with students sitting the NAPLAN test.

NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The students have all worked hard on these tests which overall will help parents and schools look at how our students are travelling in these areas.

During this week, our Year 10 students commence work experience at a variety of different locations, teachers will have the opportunity to go out visit and see what they have been learning at the workplace. It’s a great week for students to engage with other people and learn new skills, skills that potentially could lead onto pathways and future employment.

With winter approaching we have some reminders for students and parents regarding uniform:

Jumpers: Students are not allowed to wear any type of ‘Hoodie’ whilst on the way to school, during or after. Whilst we understand it is getting cold, students are advised to wear a plain white T-shirt tucked in under their school shirt, and the school jumper. This will help to keep the students warm. If a student is caught wearing a ‘Hoodie’ then a Principal’s Detention will be issued.

Scarves: Students are permitted to wear a plain navy, black or white scarf. The Snood style is not permitted.

Socks: White socks with Logo’s on them are not permitted, correct uniform socks are plain white and the correct length. Yet again a Principal Detention will be issued if students are not following these school rules.

Please note that the Junior School Student Engagement and Wellbeing Team have relocated to their new Office in C Wing from Monday 13th May.

Have a great weekend.
