Year 9 Bike Tour 2017

The Year 9 Bike Tour through East Gippsland got off to a very hot start! We pedalled towards Dandenong Station and everyone was soon sweating in the 30+ degree heat as we biked along the EastLink Trail. However, we had a tough bunch of Year 9 boys on board and we made it to Dandenong in record time. Just as well, because a huge problem confronted us when we got there: we realised that not all of the bikes would fit into the trailer or the bus. What on earth would we do? The train was due to leave soon and we had to be on it! Just as well the boys were skilled in the art of solving puzzles! They grabbed rope, removed front tyres, re-packed the bus and soon the extra bikes were safely tied down on top of the trailer.

The five days away allowed this group of Year 9s to work together to problem solve, and to support each other on the long, hot, dusty trail. They were rewarded for their efforts with a swim in the Mingling Waters and fish and chips down by the lake at Lakes Entrance. They cooked up a storm (well, barbecue really) for the staff on the last evening, which was well received.

We may have left on the Monday morning in blistering heat, but we were chased by a storm all the way home on the Friday! We dodged lightening and hail, got soaked by a downpour, but in typical style for these boys, everyone took it in their stride. Some went home that evening to rest their thighs and butts, others found the energy to head off to basketball or tennis! It was a good week away, with plenty of laughs, exercise and fun – the unwritten rules of a camp
