Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day - College Newsletter
On the 11th November 1918 at 11 am, a peace agreement between nations was made to end the ‘war that would end all wars.’ Since that date, at the same time annually citizens of many nations gather to remember those who served for their countries during the war.
As part of a Remembrance Day Service held at Salford Park, Wantirna College was invited to attend. We were represented by the College Captains for 2018; Loren and Samuel, current Middle Years Captain Connor and accompanied by Mr. Churchward (Assistant Principal) and Mr. Harvey (Trumpeter).
Alongside residents of Salford Park, we were able to witness a special speech from guest speaker Councillor Jackson Taylor of the Knox City Council, “Honouring the legacy of our service men and women” that profoundly emphasised the importance of respecting those past citizens by remembering the sacrifices they made for each of us. As well as this, we were able to participate in hymns and learn about the history and significance of the Remembrance Day Poppy, explained by Rev. Robert Brown, who also spoke the war poem 'In Flanders Fields' written by John McCrae.
It was an honour to represent Wantirna College at the Salford Park service on Saturday morning and pay our respects to those courageous soldiers lost and injured in, and returned from, war.
