Spelling Bee Final
Spelling Bee Final - Wednesday 13th December
Congratulations to all the Spelling Bee finalists Shardia Calvert 9S, Isaac Lokat 9H, Matthew Beaumont-Thomas 9H, Emma Marshall 9B, Lani Grimshaw 8H, Thomas Crofts 8G, Roselyn Chang 8D, Sarah Billingham 8S, Nicole Luong 7C, Rim Purohit7A, Owen Broadley 7C and Vivian Luc 7G.
It was a nail biting competition with some very tricky words eliciting groans and gasps from the audience of Year 7, 8 and 9 students. Mr Kelly was a tremendous Spell Master and the judges Ms Nieva, Ms Dumbrell and Mr King did a great job of ensuring everything ran smoothly.
In the end our worthy winners were Sarah Billingham (coming fourth), Shardia Calvert (third), Isaac Lokat (second) and Rima Purohit (first).
So our Spelling Bee champion for 2017 is Rima Purohi. Congratulations Rima!
Mr King, Ms Nieva, Ms Dumbrell
Mr Kelly Spell Master
All our wonderful competitors
The winners! Sarah, Shardia, Isaac and Rima.
Congratulations to Gabi Cameron (Year 12) – Winner of the Insight Publications Creative Writing Competition
It was a wonderful surprise to find Gabi’s email in my inbox saying that she won the Insight Publications Creative Writing Competition. Schools across the state entered students so Gabi should feel very proud of her achievement.
Big Thank You to Reading Angels and other Volunteers
As many of you know we are very fortunate to have volunteers coming into the school to work with the students and talk to them about their reading as part of our Independent Reading Program. Mrs Helen Batty manages these Reading Angels and she herself is a volunteer! This year Mai-Britt, Jean, Helen, and Heidi have worked with students. I would like to say a huge thank you to them for their work and particularly to Helen for her leadership. If you or anyone you know is interested in being a Reading Angel please contact Helen Batty at hrbatty@iinet.net.au. In addition, Gloria gave personalised help to a student in Year 9 and Caz worked with the Year 9 students in the Quicker and Smarter elective. All your efforts are highly valued. Thank you.
Goodbye as Leader of Whole School English and Literacy
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Ms Carrie Wallis to the school as the new Leader of Whole School English and Literacy. After six years in the role I have decided to take a break from leadership and immerse myself in the classroom. I will be on leave for the start of 2018, but look forward to coming back refreshed to work in the wonderful Wantirna College community. It has been an honour and a pleasure to lead such a terrific team of English teachers and to work with the QuickSmart tutors, staff and students across the College as the Leader of Literacy.
