Year 12 Updates

The way forward

We would really like to acknowledge how well our year 12 students are adapting to remote learning and the levels of positivity and motivation being demonstrated.  We strongly encourage students to stay in contact with their teachers and to establish a strong study routine.  This is a unique situation but the flexibility it provides for students in their independent study can only be of benefit.

A number of students have queried how they are supposed to do all the work with a reduced timetable.  We need to point out to all students that as senior students they need to be working independently beyond the timetable.  The extended breaks for year 12 students are an opportunity for additional independent study and are not relaxation time.  Your teachers are all very keen to see you do well and are happy to assist you when and if you reach out to them.

At the moment there are still a lot of unknowns about year 12 but the information coming from the VCAA is giving us a bit of an idea of how things will roll out.  So far we know the following:

  • Unit 3 has been extended by two weeks. This will take us until the last day of term 2.
  • There will be no changes to Unit 3 assessment as schools are all in different places in delivery of units.
  • Unit 4 courses and assessment will be reviewed.  Changes will be published in new study designs the week after ANZAC day.
  • The GAT will occur in late October or early November.
  • Exams will occur in December (most like at the end of December).
  • The length of exams will be reviewed.
  • The length of the exam period is being reviewed and may be condensed.
  • We are waiting for further advice from the VCAA regarding remote assessment of SACs and authentication and verification    practices. We expect that to come thorough this week.

We know a number of our students are concerned about the practical components of their courses.  We are allowed to have a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 students in a classroom at this point in time.  We are working on a process to facilitate some prac classes.  In our current circumstances these cannot be made compulsory and will require parent consent.  Once organised these will come through Compass as events.

We have no idea what the end of school celebrations will look like for year 12 students as we don't know what restrictions will be in place or when the final exams will be over.  As soon as we know we will be meeting with the social committee to plan what the situation will be.
